Geo Sat Tech

Georgia Satellite Technologies (GeoSatTech) is proposing to develop a system to characterize the W and V bands of Earth’s atmosphere. This system has two primary objectives; the first is to characterize and model V-band propagation including signal attenuation, phase distortion and depolarization, and correlate these results to atmospheric and meteorological parameters.

The second objective is to develop and validate communication link models over the uplink and downlink bandwidths of 81-86GHz uplink and 71-76GHz downlink. The approach chosen by GeoSatTech is to have a tunable operating frequency for both uplink and downlink, as selected by the user, driven by a software defined radio. By doing so, the data rate, modulation scheme, and coding of the signal are all adaptable. A literature search of current atmospheric propagation effects in the V and W bands, component availability and hardware design has been completed showing support of implementation feasibility of the proposed design.
